Reviewer role recognized
Background
A well-known medical expert in China who has worked extensively in medical research and drug safety monitoring, published dozens of papers with nearly 400 total citations, and serves as an attending physician at a top-tier hospital in China. Her credentials were solid, but the point of contention was her membership on a drug safety monitoring review committee, which does not fit the traditional reviewer template USCIS is familiar with.
Challenges
It was uncertain whether this reviewer role would satisfy the EB-1A judging criterion. USCIS is usually skeptical of non-traditional reviewer roles, so her actual role in reviewing adverse drug reactions had to be argued precisely.
Strategy
Rather than avoiding this non-traditional role, we directly explained the specific duties she carried out on the review committee and submitted it as comparable evidence, while using her citation record and attending physician position to reinforce her standing in the medical field.
Outcome
Approved on first submission with no RFE.
