F-2 to H-1B

Bridging F-2 Status

Background

L filed to change from F-1 to F-2 (spouse of a student) at the end of January. When L was selected in the H-1B lottery at the end of March, the F-2 application had not yet been approved.

Challenges

The two applications were moving on different timelines, creating a risk of a gap in status during the transition.

Strategy

We made key adjustments to the materials during the process to keep the order and logic of the two cases consistent.

Outcome

The F-2 was approved on 7/29 and the H-1B on 7/30, with an automatic change to H-1B status inside the United States starting 10/1 (2024).
