Athlete turned inventor
Background
A former speed skater and competitive aerobics athlete who started a business in the fitness industry after retiring. He holds the title of National Master Sportsman, is a national-level referee who has officiated three world-class events, and invented a "tai chi water ball device" that helps older adults with Parkinson's rehabilitation.
Challenges
The question was how to turn an athletic career into evidence of extraordinary ability that USCIS would accept. His post-retirement career change in particular needed to form one complete argument rather than several unrelated résumé entries.
Strategy
We mapped his refereeing experience, invention patent, youth sports training, and government partnership projects to different criteria, creating three parallel lines of evidence: athletic achievement, technological innovation, and community contribution.
Outcome
O-1A approved, laying the groundwork for his subsequent EB-1A.
