Student status after a B-2 extension
Background
A grandmother came to the United States on a visitor visa to care for her young granddaughter long term. Before her visa status expired, she first extended her B-2 status and then moved on to apply for undergraduate admission at a flexible college in Los Angeles.
Challenges
A long-term need to stay and care for family required professional planning of the status-change path, while keeping her travel record clean.
Strategy
We first applied for a B-2 extension to buy time, then moved her into a suitable flexible college to complete the change to student status.
Outcome
Approved outright with no RFE.
