Success Stories/Immigration/Nonimmigrant Status Change/Survivor of Domestic Violence
Reinstated after 10 months

Out of status nearly 2.5 years

Survivor of Domestic Violence

Background

A student who endured long-term confinement, domestic violence, and abuse suffered physical and emotional trauma, and her F-1 status lapsed in August 2021. She did not contact us until January 2024, by which point she had been out of status for nearly two and a half years.

Challenges

We had to review a large volume of evidence, including chat logs, emails, and photos, to show USCIS that the lapse in status was beyond her control.

Strategy

We thoroughly organized the evidence of abuse and presented the situation truthfully to USCIS.

Outcome

After a 10-month wait, the reinstatement was approved.
