Dismissed by the judge without trial
Background
H runs an electronics accessories import business in Orange County. In 2024 he signed a long-term supply contract worth about $8 million with a supermarket chain. In spring 2025 he was served with a lawsuit: M, whom he had met only twice at dinners, claimed he had brokered the deal and that they had an oral agreement for a 7.5% commission, about $600,000. M also threatened to tell the supermarket's buyers about the lawsuit unless he was paid. H was alarmed.
Strategy
We pulled every email and meeting record for the deal from start to finish. The supermarket's contact had approached H at a trade show, and M did not appear in a single email. The "evidence" M offered was a few WeChat messages saying things like "I can introduce good projects," with no promise of payment from anyone.
As for using the lawsuit to scare the customer, we sent his attorney a warning letter, and it did not happen again.
Exchanging documents and taking depositions took most of a year. The supermarket's buyer signed a declaration that they met H through the trade show and did not know M. At his deposition in February 2026, M admitted there was no written agreement and that he never took part in any negotiation. In May we asked the judge to rule without a trial; the hearing was set four months later.
